Mr Price Group: Connecting People with Career Opportunities on Social Media
They work as hard as they play and their coffee is a treat in taste. Mr Price Group employs thousands of people across South Africa and they’re growing faster than a TikTok trend. We collaborate with the Mr Price Group Talent Acquisition team to create content that brings value to the lives of the people they want to reach.
The Challenge
There are so many ways to join the team that feels like a family. Job seekers can find roles at one of their stores, including Mr Price, Mr Price Home, Mr Price Sport, Sheet Street, Milady’s and soon; Yuppiechef and Studio 88. The Mr Price Foundation runs a program called JumpStart (with their own, internally run social media pages) which gives people training and opportunities in the retail industry. The Mr Price Group headquarters in Durban is made up of free-thinkers, fast-movers and collaborators who love what they do. Every year, they invite final-year students to join their Workplace Experience Program and give graduates the opportunity of permanent entry-level jobs at the Group.
Whether it’s a first job or a first step in a new career direction, everyone who wants to work at Mr Price Group needs to create a profile to land an interview. This is one of the key messages we communicate every month.
Keeping the community informed about new activities and opportunities is also an important part of what we do. Social media is already buzzing with information, so we need to make sure the right people see the right content from Mr Price Group at the right time.

We use data and insights to understand our audience and create content in a way that gives the people who engage with it real value. A mix of paid media and organic content ensures the audience is engaged and visiting the website regularly to find opportunities to join the team.
With so much to talk about on the social media pages, we developed content themes to ensure there is value in every post we publish. These content themes are:
Inform: content that illustrates the company culture, communicates the benefits of joining the team and alerts people about the new roles available
Educate: content that helps people outside of the Mr Price Group realm, including career tips, CV and interview advice
Entertain: content that motivates and inspires people, starts conversations and reflects the team’s personality
Help: practical advice to assist community members in creating a Mr Price Group careers profile, how to apply for a job and other frequently asked questions
Results
The social media communities keep growing every year. The LinkedIn page has gained more than 390 000 followers, the Facebook page has more than 80 000 followers and the Instagram community has recently grown beyond 5000 followers. The community is engaged with the content every day, posting relevant comments and asking about career opportunities in direct messages.
Between June 2021 and June 2022, social media content led to 506 019 website sessions. Within the same period, 41 372 new career profiles have been created. As more career opportunities become available, we continue to use data to make these opportunities known in a relevant and appealing way!
