An e-learning & career guidance web application for youth across Africa.
Our team has been honoured to work on a platform that helps youth find employment while developing their professional and financial skills. The MTN Skills Academy was launched in 2022 as part of MTN’s belief that everyone deserves to benefit from a modern connected life.
With the goal of reaching 1 million people through the platform by 2025, the MTN Skills Academy is here to make an impact.

Challenge
MTN Group briefed our team to build a platform for digital skills programmes that link directly to digital jobs - to address digital literacy and unemployment in Africa. They required an ecosystem for users to find a learning stream, become educated in that field, be mentored, and then be hired as professionals. This approach focuses on both the user and the outcome – with a clear journey that can be iterated upon as new skills emerge in the digital sector.
Current barriers to acquiring digital skills include poor access to career guidance in high school, limited graduate mentorship opportunities, and a lack of internet access. The platform would need to function well despite variation in internet quality and devices throughout Africa. Our client also wanted to meet the needs of people with disabilities, who are often excluded from opportunities for growth.

MTN Group tasked our team with creating a platform for digital skills programmes linked to digital jobs.
Solution
In just 4 weeks we gathered input from MTN and its partners, and designed a tangible prototype for usability testing & data collection. MTN Group collaborated with MTN’s Foundations and CSI Divisions in Nigeria, eSwatini, Rwanda, Ghana, South Africa, and Zambia to involve youth in usability testing.

Impact
Today, MTN Skills Academy features a range of courses from LinkedIn Learning, GSMA, and Coursera. Users can also find expert career guidance via MTN’s partnership with PACE Career Centre. The free-to-use platform offers country-specific content based on current market demands and location-specific scholarship opportunities.
AccessiBe allows users to customise the PWA to accommodate disabilities, including visual impairments. In future, French-speaking users will be able to translate the content they see at the tap of a button.

The Skills Academy platform provides access to LinkedIn, GSMA, and Coursera courses to diverse learners across Africa.
